Overall record: Three wins and ten losses
Key athletes and their accomplishments: Lavione West (Honorable Mention All-MAC last year) 3rd in MAC in scoring at 16 points per game, Corbin DeLaCruz ( three year letterwinner and two year captain), Kasey Reyes (three year letterwinner), Mark Gray (leads MAC in FT percentage), Kale Brockman (two year letterwinner), Tyler Gayman (two year letterwinner), Dale Hofer (two year letterwinner), Eddie Carroll, Chris Broadie, Joe Ward, Steven Harris, and Ryan Duyck are all varsity team members.
Strengths of team: “Shooting ability and work ethic. Keep improving every game and have been competitive in all games,” said coach Mark Bigler. “Won two games in overtime so we have shown good poise. First win over PV and Assumption in over 10 years. I am proud of our players and the efforts they put forth. The most wins by a West boys team is four (twice … once last year) since 1998 and are hoping to surpass that total during this season.”
How the team needs to improve: “Rebounding has been a weakness. To win more games this is an area that we must show improvement in.”
Results of last week’s games/meets: Beat Assumption 65-57 on double overtime. This was the Falcons’ first win over Assumption since 1998.
Thoughts on qualifying for state: “A very balanced substate. We have a chance to be in every game but must just approach them one at a time. We have eight regular season games left and hope to move up the standings in the MAC during that time.” compiled by Cullen Tillberg
